MOON FLOWERS is inspired by my fascination with Georgia O'Keeffe.  This is  watercolor on paper.  Available from the artist.  Prints are also available from the artist and from Fine Art America.com

I just found this in my pile of paintings, turned it to a vertical position and I think I like it.  I am deciding on a title for this--maybe--"You Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog".  Appropriate since l am an Elvis fan.

Study for Alizarin Turquoise

"Study for Alizarin Turquoise".  The "Alizarin Turquoise" acrylic on canvas started with this study on paper.  The painting is 10 x 15 and framed with mat it is 16 x 20.  Many of the discoveries in this painting on paper was incorporated in the canvas painting.

Alizarin Turquoise Canvas

"Alizarin Turquoise", acrylic on 24 x 30 x 1.5 canvas.  Wow - it's been weeks since I added a new painting.  Amazing how this painting finally morphed into something that I love.  It was a labor of love and took many hours to develop.  I started with a study on paper and then used some of those discoveries on this canvas.

Mixed Media--It is mixed, a bit of everything!

Just finished this mixed media acrylic on 16 x 40 gallery wrapped canvas.  This was created with textured gels, tyvek paper, cedar chips, small stones, acrylic paints and then encased in a heavy layer of gels.

Dream Coat

"Dream Coat".  This highly textured acrylic painting might be a test for your vision.     Canvas 16 x 20 x 1.5.

CELEBRATION

This is my second attempt at photographing this painting.  I think this captures the details and lighting better.  It is a challenge to photograph these deeply textured paintings.

CELEBRATION

I started this painting in the Carolyn Riegelman workshop in
Granbury, Texas.  I was not at all pleased with it.  Finally, I pulled it out to try and save the painting.  It was a real thrill as I started applying more paint with the pallet knife, scratching with the pallet knife, rubbing with a cloth, and seeing the painting in a new light.  After some new highlights and the final sealer, it is finished.

Layering of texture and color

I had a great experience last week in the Carol Riegelman workshop in Granbury.  When I attend a workshop, my goal is not to finish a painting rather it is to learn the technique the workshop presenter has perfected.

Now I am in the process of using the technique of layering texture and color on the canvas.  I can do this better in my own studio without all the distractions occurring in the workshop.  I can think better about how the texture goes on and the colors to exphasize.  Unique to me, I guess, I just create better when I am alone.

This is the beginning of a workshop painting.  Now it's time to add more color.

Torn Paper Collage on Canvas

Torn paper collage on 8 x 10 x 1.5 canvas.

I like using throw away materials to create art.

Do you think the papers in this collage could be fine Japanese hand crafted papers?

Actually they are fine Costco paper towels soaked with acrylic and saved rather than trashed.
Never worry about archival quality because they are coated back and front with Golden gels.

Rocky Top No. 2

This colorful acrylic, 16 x 40 x 1.5 canvas, is highly textured with pebbles, cedar chips, and heated Tyvek.

Big Thompson River No. 2

Remembering August, 2011, my summer spent by the Big Thompson River in Estes Park, Colorado.  In addition to the Tyvek, Crackle paste and a mixture of gel and spackling paste add lots of texture to this 18 x 24 acrylic painting.

Tyvek, foil, and crackle paste

I love the texture of the Tyvek after applying heat to it, crackle paste adds more texture, and the foil gives awesome, bright colors.  Now I must have a name for these two paintings that had their beginning in my demo at Mid Cities Fine Artists.

Saturday, March 3, 2012

I started this painting in a demo with the Mid Cities Fine Artists group in November.  It has gone through several changes, but it is now definitely finished.  I just put the final coat of resin on it and it is now in the process of drying.
This time a fitting name has not materialized.  It will come....

"Tech World" found a new home.

"Tech World" a watercolor and multiple award winner has found a new home.  It could not have found a better place to live.  This one-of-a-kind experimental art piece can not be duplicated, and I am rather attached to it.  It will be enjoyed by it's new owner and for this I am happy.

Torn Paper Collage Portrait

Drum Roll Please....Presenting... Lady Elaine.

This torn paper collage began with a photo session and this is the shot I chose to use for the collage.  You can see a copy of the photograph in the lower right corner.
The map making up part of the face is of Manhattan which represents our Christmas, 2011, trip to New York City.  Upon arrival we discovered a need for a map immediately.  There are other items in the background from the trip to Manhattan.  We visited the art museums which are somewhere beyond wonderful. There's, also, a sky line view of Manhattan in the background.
Do you agree that purple and green are positively wonderful colors.

This is my photo that I used for the portrait.

Torn Paper Collage Portrait in process

This is a portrait of Elaine that is in process.  Hope to have a finished photo soon.  Many of the torn papers are from magazines that I collected while on our trip to Manhattan in December.  The maps represent a few of the challenges we faced while trying to find our way around Manhattan.
